There can be no social justice without economic prosperity …

There cannot be economic prosperity without social justice, but economic prosperity without social justice is meaningless.

Every country looks at both social justice and economic prosperity to be instrumental for the growth of the country and any derailment between the two can lead to a fiasco. Now, let us see how a country such as USA had undergone the rigors and turmoil in establishing such social justice. Abraham Lincoln, after having assumed power as the president of the country sought to abolish the slavery and passed anti-slavery act to ameliorate the conditions of bonded labor and eradicate slavery. But the consequence was that five states formed confederation states of America and opposed the acts of Lincoln and the legal ramifications of the act, that would be deleterious to the people who had made slavery inured.

Social justice started in USA and accordingly, when Martin Luther King jr. spelt out the speech of ‘I have a dream’ mirrored the conditions existing at the time which was inter wined by racial discrimination. In 1929, when the adult suffrage act was amended and women were empowered to participate in political activity, did the true democratic aspect of politics shaped up. Later in 1963, the ‘Equal employment opportunity ‘ act had shown that economic progress was impeded by such gender discrimination and the act paved way for an egalitarian society.

So, in later ages, United states of America, had promulgated and amended laws such that the ratification enabled further progress of the country. Thus, establishing the fact that social justice would lead to economic prosperity. The later periods have ,though, demonstrated certain phases of social injustice, yet the face of such has been fleeting, providing the country to grow economically. When we discuss, economic prosperity, what appears to be a dichotomy is the classification propounded by the UNO , where nations are classified as such measures of GDP as benchmark for growth, while a second measure of Human development index . that considers happiness besides education and longevity to be significant to the growth of the country.

Here the mention of social justice is apparently incorporated as the requirement of the same is included in the human development, but economic prosperity is the question that cannot be interpreted as a success. Thus economic prosperity looks to be elusive of social justice in certain such countries. Economic prosperity in terms of happiness in the citizens of the country seems to be a measure of success. So here when we see that the economic prosperity when measured in the development of the citizens, considering the factors of longevity of the people and the educational standards achieved by the citizens on an average , would be deemed to be economic prosperity and in such countries, social justice is omnipresent. Countries such as Canada, Singapore and Sweden , have all achieved the top positions in matching both economic progress and inparting social equality with no hassles.

So, when on analyzes the concept in abstract terms, we have seen countries that have been successful in gender parity and social equality have achieved economic prosperity and also sustained social justice in equitable terms. On the contrary , when countries of the third world, where social justice is a misnomer and is a prejudiced term, there has been no progress either economically, referring to either the GDP or the HDI . Some Scandinavian and Latin American countries besides countries in the Asian subcontinent have all failed to address the parity in social justice and thereby have been subjudice to the concept of leveraging social justice and economic prosperity. Here , Economic progress is always thwarted by social injustice. We have all observed that when ever any country is oblivious to social justice and gender parity have languished to gain economic progress. There can be various reasons for such. Primarily being the concept of society saddled with schism of the members on the basis of race, caste and religion. As long as the fragmentation of people on the basis of religion and caste exists, it would be difficult to unify a country in the name of social justice.

This division or bifurcation has always led to prejudice and nepotism and these have always shown the ugly face of democracy being stultified. Some African countries also that have lack of resources and autocratic rule have lost the true meaning of self reliance and has been sluggish in the economic growth. Economic growth and Social justice have been significantly together in their appearance and always have been tied together. Unless countries realize that this line of unification, that bars discrimination on the basis of sex, caste and religion, fail to comprehend bith the economic prosperity and the human development, that certain countries have achieved.

I would like to finally conclude my objective evaluation on broader terms that social inequality is a bane that can be a conduit for economic impairment. Countries such as USA( though reveals its dastardly acts on race and creed) has otherwise been a successful in its implementation of public policies that has governed the growth of the country in terms of economy, science and technology. While the Soviet countries and Latin American countries that have been cosseted by such discrimination and disparity have struggled in terms of economic success. Countries such as India and China , though have huge potential for growth ,and India , in particular has wealth of human and material resources has not been able to achieve such prosperity ,as the disparity in gender, caste and religion has always been a motivating factor for political gains rather than economic gains thus, rendering the country to lose its status of achieving the economic growth despite such laws and acts that shield the integrity of the country. So , I strongly advocate the truism that economic prosperity would be possible only when social justice is endured and social justice alone can lead to economic prosperity.
